We’ve already written our top 5 resolutions for 2010 for intranet owners – but what about those of you out there on the Great Wide Web? Keep reading for our top 5 New Year resolutions for website owners…
- Use analytics strategically (less is more) – what activity on your site is really going to make a difference to your business? Find ways to measure it and then improve it slowly (tweak and review, tweak and review, tweak and review). Don’t forget: you can measure nearly anything, including your Flash apps!
- Review your Pay Per Click (PPC) campaign – halve the budget and double the click-throughs. Make sure your key phrases are right for your desired audience. Stop wasting clicks by building more (and better) landing pages with strong calls-to-action to convert those visitors.
- Dip your toe into the Social Media pool. Be realistic, though: don’t try to take on too much – good Social Media takes time and effort. Be strategic: find a social media tool that your target audience is using (check out Forrester’s POST strategy). A bit of originality, too, goes a long way.
- Do some user research and act on it: talk to several users and find out what they need, like and don’t like. You could even create some personas to test your site.
- Think about mobile – are users looking for you (or your competitors) on their iPhones or BlackBerries or mobile phones? What could you do to make things easier for them? Don’t try and do everything on a mobile site: again, be strategic.
