An animated product demo tells a thousand words

A great way to explain to your customer how your product works without making them read pages of dull text copy is to show them an interactive animated demo of the product in use. These types of demos can either be used to help sell your product or even to train existing customers on how to use the product. We were asked recently to create a demo for a wound healing dressing for one of our medical devices clients. Have a look at the animated product demo we came up with.

The Brief

Create an interactive, animated demo of a wound healing dressing.
The animated demo should act both as a sales aid and as a training tool.
The demo should show how to apply the dressing properly; how the dressing effectively treats the wound; and how the dressing is removed once it has done its job.

The Execution

We held a meeting with the client and were shown live demos of how the dressing is applied and removed. We also discussed exactly how the product works.
We then started out by designing some of the core elements of the animation – these elements include things such as background colours, buttons, product images and so on. They set the look and feel and are used throughout the animation.
We then set about creating a graphic storyboard of the animation. This is essentially a series of still images that show the main stages of the animation and any accompanying text. This stage of the process can take a few iterations before sign off.
Once signed off, our designers set about animating the frames into a full movie.
