The many widgets that come with SharePoint Online are called webparts. They provide a broad feature-set for teams to build their intranet. However, teams often tell us they feel underwhelmed with the end result: the user experience can be bland and "sharepointy"; branding is basic; the features feel a little half-baked and lacking; and there are clear gaps which are difficult to plug without resorting to custom coding.
Lightspeed Modules is our answer to these frustrations. They provide a powerful toolset that fills the gaps found in the Microsoft out-of-the-box webparts. What's more, our Lightspeed Modules are themselves webparts - they work in the same way as the native SharePoint ones because they are built on the SharePoint Modern Framework, Microsoft's approved framework for developing in SharePoint. This keeps IT happy as it minimises the risk that often comes with bespoke software.
Available in two price bands – core and premium (depending on the depth of functionality required), Lightspeed’s library of web parts is a cost-effective way to extend SharePoint Online and give you all the web parts you need to establish a world-class intranet, without having to invest in a full intranet-in-a-box product or having to develop your own custom webparts which, done right, takes considerable investment in time and money.
Many organisations choose to use SharePoint Online straight out-of-the-box for their intranet. This is a highly cost-effective approach as it does not require additional dedicated intranet software.
However, using just SharePoint Online for an enterprise intranet has several drawbacks:
✘There are often missing features and gaps, particularly relating to web parts that support internal communications and employee engagement
✘ There are limited options for branding, formatting and design both across the site, but also at the individual web part level
✘ It can be difficult to establish governance across the intranet to support good publishing standards and a consistent user experience.
Collectively these limitations can significantly impact the success of an intranet. Until recently, enterprises with more sophisticated needs have often chosen to purchase “intranet-in-a-box” software that sits alongside SharePoint Online to give a greater feature set, as well as more flexible branding options. However, these have proven to be very expensive, and locks the team into having to use the same software for many years.

High-value features and functionality
Lightspeed Modules offer a powerful and comprehensive set of features that not only plug the missing functionality gaps in SharePoint, but provides sophisticated capabilities to your intranet that can add tangible value to your organisation.

Multiple options for branding, design and formatting
Lightspeed Module's 'Brand customiser' web part offer multiple branding options to personalise your intranet and change SharePoint theme options. It gives you more branding options than Microsoft do with SharePoint Online, but ensures any changes can be implemented safely without breaking the design.

Governance features
Lightspeed Module's 'Site provisioning' feature supports intranet and collaboration governance, which can be difficult to achieve with SharePoint Online straight out-of-the-box. It provides employees with step-by-step guidance on how to create a SharePoint team site, a Yammer community, or a Microsoft Team, encouraging them to request the optimal type of site for their need. The web part then triggers approval workplace and automatic provisioning, driving efficiency while also preventing site sprawl.

Cost effective
Lightspeed provides a cost-effective alternative to a full “intranet-in-a-box” product by offering an additional set of targeted web parts that extend the power of SharePoint. Furthermore, it's lower risk and doesn't lock the customer into their vendor choice. Lightspeed webparts can live happily alongside Microsoft webparts, custom webparts and third party webparts.
Lightspeed web parts can either be purchased as a set or individually, meaning that organisations have the option to only pay for the functionality that they actually need.
The key component of Lightspeed Modules is the unique set of webparts that add additional value to SharePoint Online and sit alongside the existing library of standard SharePoint Online web parts.
Lightspeed Modules has been developed by the expert team at Content Formula and are built on many years of experience delivering custom intranets and features for multiple clients across many industries.
Many of the concepts and features found in the Lightspeed web parts were originally designed as bespoke components, which we have supported and enhanced over several years to maximise their performance and business value.Thousands of hours have gone into their development.
